The thing in technology is that everyday there is some kind of change, but the importance of the change varies. I decided to inform you about this change in the mobile devices, about the SIM cards to be exact, and you decide if it's important or not.
The four large companies, RIM, Motorola, Apple and Nokia have finally found a common language about standards and appearance of the new SIM cards.
New nano-SIM cards have dimensions of 8 x 12 millimeters, and will replace the micro SIM card that was first used in the Apple iPhone, and then the other manufacturers used this practice.
There was rivalry who'll made the new standard SIM card between the four companies and this last for a long time. The attempts of some companies to push their own solutions, often ended in bickering and the rejection of the proposal.
Most disagreement was about the design, where RIM and Samsung insisted on the appearance which will provide a "push-push" mechanism, or placing or removing the card with pressing, similar to a memory card. On the other hand Apple stubbornly insisted on the contrary.
The compromise solution has a simple rectangular design with an incision on one side.
Will the new solution be adopted and when we can expect the new SIM card we will know after 31st of May when members of ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) will meet.
